Privacy Policy

Last updated June 2026

Overview

cursorrobin is a macOS app and this website. It is built to collect as little as possible: there is no account to create, and the app never sends your files to us. This policy explains the little that is collected, why, and how to switch it off.

Who is responsible

The controller responsible for data processing on this website and in the app is the operator of cursorrobin. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, email hello@cursorrobin.app.

Your files stay on your Mac

Files you drop onto Robin are staged locally on your Mac and dragged back out from there. They never leave your machine through cursorrobin — we operate no servers that receive them, and their names, paths, and contents are never collected.

Usage analytics (the app)

To understand how the app is used and where to improve it, cursorrobin can send anonymous, cookieless usage events to our own analytics instance. This is optional and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → Common → “Share usage analytics”. When it is on, the app sends:

  • Coarse usage events — for example that the app launched or a quick action was used. Never file names, paths, or contents.
  • Technical context — the app version, the macOS version, and the processor type (Apple Silicon or Intel), so we know which versions to support.
  • A few app settings — whether the shake gesture, the Dock icon, and the menu-bar icon are enabled, plus the date the app was first launched.
  • A random install identifier — a UUID generated on first run and stored only on your Mac, used to count installs without identifying you. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account, because there is none.

These events are processed by Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool we host ourselves on our own infrastructure in the EU. Umami sets no cookies and does not store your IP address — it derives a short-lived, daily-rotating hash purely to count visits, then discards it. The data is not shared with third parties and is never sold.

Website analytics

This site uses the same self-hosted Umami instance to count aggregate page views. It sets no cookies, does not track you across other sites, stores no IP address, and collects no personal information.

Updates and downloads

The app periodically checks our servers for a new version and downloads installers from our content delivery network. As with any web request, our servers may briefly log standard technical information such as your IP address, the requested file, and the app version, for security and to deliver the update. These logs are not used to build a profile of you.

Purchases and licenses

The app is free to try; keeping its full features requires a paid license. When licensing is available, purchases are handled by our third-party payment provider, which acts as the merchant of record — it collects what the sale requires (such as your email and payment details) under its own privacy policy, and we never receive your full payment details. We receive only what we need to issue and validate your license, such as your license key, order reference, and the email used for the purchase. Validating a license may involve a request from the app to a licensing server; it never transmits your files or their contents.

Legal basis

Where this processing involves personal data under the GDPR, we rely on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating, securing, and improving cursorrobin. You can object to the usage analytics at any time, with no effect on the app, simply by switching the setting off. We do not use the data for advertising or automated decision-making.

Retention

Usage analytics are kept only in aggregate form for as long as they are useful for product decisions; we build no individual profiles. Server logs are kept for a short period and then deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

If the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected or incomplete data completed;
  • have your data erased, or its processing restricted;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest;
  • receive your data in a portable format; and
  • lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these, email hello@cursorrobin.app.

Children

cursorrobin is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date above.
